The 2024 HAHMP Scholarship

The Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals proudly presents the 2024 Scholarship application, demonstrating commitment to fostering media careers within the Hispanic community.

With gratitude to various supporters, over $800,000 have been awarded in scholarships in our 37 years as an organization.

Fall 2024 Scholarship Details

Application Deadline: June 30, 2024

Criteria
  • Applicant must be a junior or senior undergraduate, or a graduate student, in media and communications-related fields.
  • Applicant must enroll for Fall 2024 in a US or Puerto Rico community college or university.
  • Applicant must reside in the greater Houston area.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

The HAHMP
Scholarship Components

  1. Complete the online application form on this page.
  2. Upload an unofficial transcript.
  3. Include samples of work done while majoring in media, internship, school newspaper, radio, etc.
  4. Upload two recommendation letters.
  5. Include either a 300-500 word autobiographical essay or a 2-5 minute video addressing these key questions:
    1. Who are you?​
    2. Why do you deserve this scholarship?
    3. What are your career aspirations in the communications field?
    4. Why did you choose to pursue a communications degree?
    5. How will the scholarship aid your academic and career goals?

The Annual Sylvan Rodriguez Scholarship Gala will take place in the Fall of 2024.

If I’m a senior in high school and plan to major in Media Studies in college in the upcoming year, can I apply?

Yes! Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university anywhere in the United States and Puerto Rico.
 
They must also be majoring in the journalism, communication, or public relations fields.
