Assignment Desk Assistant (Repost 7/29/11)
KHOU 11, a Belo-owned station, is looking for an individual to work part-time on the newsroom assignment desk. The selected candidate will be responsible for gathering news and assigning crews.

Additional responsibilities include the ability to monitor police and fire scanners for breaking news; having good news judgment to evaluate possible stories sent to us by e-mail and phone; helping to plan for major events and upcoming stories and assisting reporters in developing and setting up their stories.  The candidate needs to be creative, organized and good at details.  The position requires a good communicator who can keep managers, news producers and KHOU.com well-informed of breaking news and other changes.

A minimum of six months experience on a TV newsroom assignment desk is preferred and the ability to work flexible shifts is required.  A college degree is preferred.

Assistant News Director (Posted 4/4/11)
Overview
KHOU 11, a Belo owned CBS affiliate in Houston, has an immediate opening for an Assistant News Director. We’re searching for a dynamic newsroom leader to oversee day to day operation of our enterprise driven news organization in market #10. Candidates should have previous news director, assistant news director, or executive producer experience in a medium to large market. The assistant news director must be able to devise and execute a winning strategy built around strong reporting and storytelling. We’re looking for someone who can teach and coach outstanding journalism in a newsroom that has won more awards for journalistic excellence than any other station in Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises specific KHOU 11 News employees at the direction of the Executive News Director.
  • Assists the Executive News Director in recruiting, interviewing, and evaluating potential new employees.
  • Assists the News Director in identifying promising on-air talent for anchor and reporting jobs.
  • Assists the Executive News Director and the Business Manager in tracking News Department expenses and in the preparation of the News Department budget.
  • Works closely with consultants on research projects relating to the News Department.
  • Coordinates, with news managers at other Belo television stations, joint news coverage projects.
  • Works on other special projects and special assignments as directed by the Executive News Director.

KHOU 11, CBS affiliate in Houston, Texas, is seeking a Regional Account Executive. The selected candidate must possess exceptional analytical skills, the ability to develop and nurture business relationships, the ability to create new revenue through prospecting and innovative business solutions and the ability to sell multiple screens and media platforms. This person must maintain a strong work ethic while maintaining the discipline and communication skills necessary to work from home or a satellite office; must be self driven, organized and accountable; and must be an energetic leader that is results driven.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for developing new station revenue through the creation of new client development.
  • Responsible for marketing and selling advertising across various media platforms to all client categories.

TECHNICAL OPERATIONS

Belo owned KHOU 11, CBS 10th market network affiliate, is seeking a System Administrator to provide phone and desk side computing support to all staff including executive level within the organization. The selected candidate will assist in configuration and installation of computers and peripherals for new employees and contractors; assist in analysis of equipment, software, and process problems; and assist in maintenance of software and hardware as it relates to the computing environment.

A minimum of 3 years of practical computer repair and customer support experience is required. Baseline educational requirements include an Associate’s Degree in computer technology or technical school. Must be self motivated, precise, and be able to work various shifts. The preferred candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work on projects alone as well as with other team members. An SBE certification in Network Systems is optional but preferred. Candidate must have or obtain a valid Texas drivers license.
