Election Meeting

Have you ever thought about serving on a nonprofit board? HAHMP Board Elections will be held this month and we need nominations for board service. Several of our current board members will not be seeking re-elections; therefore, we need everyone’s help in nominating candidates. We ask that you consider serving on the board or let us know if you or anyone you know may be interested in serving.

HAHMP Board Member elections is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23rd. The following is a list of current board members seats that are up for elections:

  • President: Must be a working electronic or print journalist. Will preside over meetings and develop the meeting agenda. Will serve as the association spokesperson.
  • Vice President: Must be a working electronic or print journalist. Will assume the duties of the president in the president’s absence.
  • Secretary: Will record the minutes of meetings of the members and the directors. Will post notice of meetings.
  • Treasurer: Will keep a record of all financial transactions and deposit all money in the name and to the credit of the association. Will disburse funds at the order of the President who shall sign or co-sign all disbursements. Will provide an account of all transactions and account balances at each meeting of the members and/or directors. May also be charged with the responsibility of collecting annual dues and notifying members when they are in arrears of dues payment.
  • Membership Director: Will keep records of membership showing names of all members, their addresses, type of membership and a record showing dues payments. Will collect annual dues and notify members when they are in arrears of dues payment. Will help plan events aimed at increasing association membership.
  • Scholarship Director: Will post notice of annual scholarship awards and distribute applications to qualified students. Will form a committee to screen applications, select scholarship award recipients, and notify such recipients of their selection.
  • Web Director: Will maintain and administer content management of hahmp.org web site. Will keep the site current and dynamic by regularly updating content which includes but is not limited to: HAHMP meetings, events, workshops, announcements, job postings, photo galleries, member highlights, and more. Will work with Web committee to create featured content for web site.
  • Executive Producer of Houston on the Move: Will help create a quality community affairs show that will educate and spread awareness of HAHMP and Houston, Texas. The executive producer will keep the board informed of show topics and any negations or problems with HCC-TV.

All board members will serve two-year terms and may serve no more than two consecutive terms of office. Board members may also serve on any of the association committees. Only current paid members are able to vote.
