 Belo owned, KHOU 11, is seeking a Photographer/Editor who will be responsible for live shots, packages and b-roll for Great Day Houston. The selected candidate will photograph events, both live and on tape, for daily, live entertainment program and edit stories on Non-linear or similar system to the fullest capability of the equipment.

The selected candidate must have the ability to single-handedly shoot and operate live trucks; must have a valid Texas driver’s license; a minimum of five years of photojournalist experience; a strong background in ENG (Electronic News Gathering) operations, Avid, After Effects, Photoshop and experience working with HD preferred; good organizational skills; producing experience; and be able to juggle multi-projects under tight deadlines. KHOU 11 is currently seeking a meteorologist to join our weather team. The selected candidate will be responsible for producing and presenting weather segments on regular newscasts and as needed in conjunction with other station programming. This positions reports to the Chief Meteorologist.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, produce and present live and taped, on air forecasts for daily newscasts and/or special programs as directed by chief meteorologist and news director.
  • Prepare, produce and present live and taped, on air forecasts in tandem with other on air meteorologists.
  • Prepare and post to weather updates to khou.com and other various multimedia platforms daily.
  • Write, produce and present live and taped weather video packages.
  • Provide viewers with weather information which is accurate, concise and interesting.
  • Prepare and present weather bulletins as-needed.
  • Keep abreast of weather developments and weather technology.

Overview
KHOU 11, a Belo owned CBS affiliate in Houston, has an immediate opening for an Assistant News Director. We’re searching for a dynamic newsroom leader to oversee day to day operation of our enterprise driven news organization in market #10. Candidates should have previous news director, assistant news director, or executive producer experience in a medium to large market. The assistant news director must be able to devise and execute a winning strategy built around strong reporting and storytelling. We’re looking for someone who can teach and coach outstanding journalism in a newsroom that has won more awards for journalistic excellence than any other station in Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises specific KHOU 11 News employees at the direction of the Executive News Director.
  • Assists the Executive News Director in recruiting, interviewing, and evaluating potential new employees.
  • Assists the News Director in identifying promising on-air talent for anchor and reporting jobs.
  • Assists the Executive News Director and the Business Manager in tracking News Department expenses and in the preparation of the News Department budget.

TECHNICAL OPERATIONS
Maintenance Engineer (Posted 3/4/11)
Belo owned KHOU 11, CBS 10th market network affiliate is seeking a broadcast engineer to maintain studios, master control, and assist with repair and preventative maintenance of all other equipment in the broadcast facility. Baseline educational requirements include an Associates Degree in electronic technology or technical school. Must be self motivated, precise, and be able to work various shifts. An SBE certification in television is optional but preferred. Individual must be familiar with all broadcast related FCC rules and regulations.

The candidate must have 3 years broadcast television maintenance experience and must have maintained ENG and studio cameras. Must have an engineering background that would include the repair and preventative maintenance of Sony broadcast video tape players. Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the electronics of SDTV and HDTV television formats. A solid working knowledge of the maintenance and operations of broadcast equipment such as: digital video, microwave, satellite systems, broadcast distribution and interconnect systems that include: fiber, telephone, LAN, WAN, serial data, and remote control telemetry. Candidate must have or obtain a valid Texas drivers license.
