JOB SUMMARY
With minimal supervision and a high level of personal initiative and autonomy, the Coordinator manages the year round relationships with United Way’s Agency Support, Harris County and City of Houston campaigns. Oversees the HISD and Cy-Fair online campaigns and assists with Speaker Tours and Fairs. Duties include oversight of campaign coordination, strategizing, planning, and implementing a comprehensive approach to maximize fundraising efforts. Supports campaign coordinators in developing creative campaign solutions to develop an understanding of the motivation of the campaign leaders in order to increase their commitment to United Way. Duties also include providing, education, and training to campaign leaders of assigned agencies and companies, and establishing meaningful relationships to increase donor involvement. Responsible for effectively communicating the United Way message and mission through public speaking before groups of various sizes. Additional duties include managing assigned Loaned Executives, participating in the United Way Days of Caring (DOC) program, and supporting campaign wide initiatives. Works closely with assigned Senior Director, Employee Coordinators, other Donor Relations Staff and volunteers.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the year round relationships of assigned agencies and other campaigns to establish and cultivate long-term relationships. Using the Discovery Process (training provided), develops an understanding of the motivation of company campaign leaders in order to appropriately support their needs. Provides support, education, and training to campaign leaders of assigned companies. Assists them with analyzing, planning, and establishing a strategic plan for implementation of their United Way campaigns. Performs research and analysis of assigned campaigns for the purpose of identifying opportunities for achieving campaign growth.
Assist with the Speaker Tours and Fairs process during the campaign season (August to November) and as needed through out the year. Ensures that all speaking, tour and fair request are confirmed in the most expedient and professional manner. Cultivates and maintains a strong relationship with United Way partner agencies. Maintains an updated list of recommended agency speakers and their biographies.
Proactively responds to campaign coordinators’ questions, schedules and confirms appointments and activities. Prepares reports of campaign results, campaign analyses, weekly reports reflecting tasks and accomplishments, and other reports as needed for volunteers and upper management staff. Inputs and maintains information on assigned campaigns, retrieves and analyzes campaign information to update projections, and maintains updated information on agency and company contacts.
Assists in organizing campaign functions, which may include delivering supplies and picking up campaign donations (pledges and money), filling out money reports, and making presentations to communicate the United Way message and mission.
Works and meets with manager: inform manager of account status and problems, reviews campaign plans and reviews progress, and accepts instructions on special projects, planning, and problem solving. Works on special projects and organizational activities as assigned, including Days of Caring.
Supervises Loaned Executives, coordinates their account activities, reviews account progress, provides training on certain computer software, provide on-going coaching and problem solving as it relates to company campaign assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and two years of related experience or three or more years of progressive work experience.
Minimum Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated use of automated office systems and tools in performing assigned functions, i.e., PC word processing and analytical software.
- Excellent verbal communications skills – both written and verbal, including public speaking skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information and management of a variety of responsibilities.
- Good people skills and ability to interact with co-workers and volunteers at all levels.
- Excellent organizational skills, flexibility and detail-oriented.
- Fosters a workable, effective and productive relationship with other staff, administration, volunteers, agencies and other customers.
Equipment Used:
- Personal computer and software packages – Windows, Word, Excel, Access, etc., calculator, FAX machine, copier and audiovisual equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Work is carried out in a controlled, agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions.
Contacts:
- Requires frequent contact by telephone, written communication and in person with individuals inside and outside the organization requiring reasonable tact, discretion, self-expression and a working knowledge of the organization and Donor Relations practices and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical exertion includes bending, pushing, standing and walking.
- Must be able upon occasion to move or lift approximately 25 pounds (i.e., overhead projector, etc.)
- Good vision and good hearing acuity (with glasses and hearing aids if necessary).
- Skill in use of computer screens and manual dexterity and skill in use of keyboard.
Mental and Aptitude Requirements:
- Job requires ability to hear and talk analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, planning and decision-making skills.
Number of Employees Supervised:
- One to two Loaned Executives on a seasonal basis.

- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have a valid State of Texas driver’s license
